Summary

There is now clear scientific evidence that emissions from economic activity, particularly the burning of fossil fuels for energy, are causing changes to the Earth's climate。 A sound understanding of the economics of climate change is needed in order to underpin an effective global response to this challenge。 The Stern Review is an independent, rigourous and comprehensive analysis of the economic aspects of this crucial issue。 It has been conducted by Sir Nicholas Stern, Head of the UK Government Economic Service, and a former Chief Economist of the World Bank。 The Economics of Climate Change will be invaluable for all students of the economics and policy implications of climate change, and economists, scientists and policy makers involved in all aspects of climate change。

A seminal book on the greatest global challenge of the 21st century。 The breadth and depth of the material covered are daunting, especially to relative neophytes (like me)。 Still, the learnings are many and valuable in framing the underlying science, economics and policy questions。 With each page read, however, an inner voice asks, “13 years later, where are we today” and “how much worse is 2050 going to be given the damage politicians like Trump and Bolsonaro are doing”?For students and casual A seminal book on the greatest global challenge of the 21st century。 The breadth and depth of the material covered are daunting, especially to relative neophytes (like me)。 Still, the learnings are many and valuable in framing the underlying science, economics and policy questions。 With each page read, however, an inner voice asks, “13 years later, where are we today” and “how much worse is 2050 going to be given the damage politicians like Trump and Bolsonaro are doing”?For students and casual readers interested in the topic, a reference guide for your library。 Happy to discuss the book / subject!!😊 。。。more

This is a question of inter generational inequality)。 After making noble conclusions that the future generations deserve an almost equal weight, except for the small probability of extinction (not all economists concede this), he then proceeds to use scientific research and extensive cost benefit analysis, to demonstrate that the conclusion we must take is that we cannot afford inaction。 Strong, immediate, decisive action, is required。 As far as I am concerned, the methodological criticisms of this book (often a question of ethics) are far outweighed by its moral and intellectual importance on the political agenda。 I sincerely hope Lord Stern and all his team go down in history for this review。 。。。more

A comprehensive study of the economics of climate change。 Perhaps the most intriguing finding: addressing climate change, if we act quickly and wisely, doesn't have to break the bank。 A comprehensive study of the economics of climate change。 Perhaps the most intriguing finding: addressing climate change, if we act quickly and wisely, doesn't have to break the bank。 。。。more

The definitive guide to a comprehensive economic valuation of climate change's impacts, this study ignited frenzied debate amongst economists worldwide as to how well the assessment was performed and how solid the basic assumptions。 The definitive guide to a comprehensive economic valuation of climate change's impacts, this study ignited frenzied debate amongst economists worldwide as to how well the assessment was performed and how solid the basic assumptions。 。。。more
